BUHIOS

Rustic construction, like huts, but that can have a roof made of stone, which gives it great consistency. In this case they also have a chimney to evacuate the fumes. The main characteristic was that the buhíos served as occasional living quarters for people.

The word has a peculiar origin as it is a linguistic import from the Americas. In one of Christopher Columbus’ letters, reference is made to a village that the Indians called “Buhío” and was made up of huts.
